You want to know who Alvar Hanso is? I will tell you.

Lets first review the mission statement and quote made by The Hanso Foundation.

Its been boggling us. He’s hardly been mentioned in the show, but he is, in fact, very central to the story.

An Ascended Master is an individual who has undergone the process of ascension. Throughout history, there have been stories of these individuals who have reached a higher state of spiritual awareness and placed themselves in service to humanity.

They are also said to have undergone a process of spiritual transformation, they are attentive to the spiritual growth of humanity and also act as guides to humanity’s spiritual growth.

Ascended Masters are also said to be avid in the process of reincarnation, sometimes doing it many times over the span of thousands of years.

Ascended Masters also have concept that comes along with them called Ascended Bloodlines. This is the idea that if the person ascends while leaving a daughter behind, that daughter and the daughters of several generations down the line have the ability to immaculately conceive. The child of this conception is said to be very important and to bring major social changes in humanity.

The beliefs of ascention describe the human body as being composed of seven different forms: physical, etheric, astral, causal, mental, celestial, and Christ bodies. An ascended master may become any of these forms at will. These correspond to the seven Chakra’s. The Chakras are the representation of the seven glands in the endocrine system. The maintaining of harmony of these glands is a central ideal of the Ascended Master. Also, certain drugs and substances can be made from endocrine glands, such as psychoactive drugs.

One can become enlightened, but in order to become an Ascended Master, you have to be enlightened and give up reincarnation so to benefit humanity. Those who are Ascended Masters are in full control of the physical realm, and therefore can move across the planet freely. They also possess clairvoyance and other paranormal abilities.

So, yes, I am saying that Alvar Hanso is an Ascended Master. It fits with his quote that he made about humanity, and the including the “dawn of time” part is an indication of his actual age. Due to the ability of move across the planet in an astral or etheric form and his clairevoyance, he is the black smoke on the island, looking at people’s past and future. The idea of immaculate conception is also extremely prevelant. We have 3 generation gaps, each containing a child of Hanso. Locke would be first, which is why he is in most contact with the island, and even his mother said he was immaculately conceived. Danielle’s baby is also immaculately conceived. That’s why the others what her. And finally Claire’s baby. These are three separate generations each who have a bloodline connection to Hanso, which is why they are on the island.

There is a secret society that is said to be the most secretive society in history. They are also the most powerful and most influencial on humanity. A society founded by the Indian Emporer Asoka after his conversion to Buddhism. It is called the “Nine Unknown Men”.

“Nine Unknown Men” was founded to protect and develop knowledge and technology that would be dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands, and have been doing so ever since 270 BCE. The Nine were also charged by Asoka with manipulating the culture of India to present an image of a backwards and mystically-oriented people to the outside world in order to conceal the advanced scientific knowledge that was being accumulated within. Another motivation for Asoka to create this society was because of the alleged distruction of the Rama Empire (which is similar to Atlantis) by advanced weaponry thousands of years ago.

The Nine Unknown Men still exist today, sporadically but anonymously assisting humanity, such as providing the cure for Cholera. It is said to be a secret society that works quietly for the good of humanity.

Here’s the kicker. Each of the Nine Unknown Men are said to be Ascended Masters.

It gets better. They each have a book to keep. Each book is an accumulation of potentially hazordous information in nine specific fields. The 9 subjects of these books are as followed.

Propganda and Psychological Warfare
Physiology
Microbiology (including advanced biotechnology)
Alchemy
Communication (especially with extra-terrestrial life)
Gravitation (including the construction of the Vimana, an interstellar saucer type vehicle)

Light
Society (including rules concerning evolution of societies and how to predict downfalls)

The DHARMA initiative is an intentional study of these aspects that the Nine Unknown Men have to collect data on. The only one of the subjects that the NUM aren’t studying on the island is Alchemy. That is because Alchemy is Hanso’s book. That’s why he has unlimited resources and is able to fund an operation like this.

The Island is the protectorate of this information. That’s why there is a security system to it, because the survivors arent supposed to be allowed to venture towards the secrets being held there. They’re only there to feed the society book.

Hanso has a purpose for Locke, Alex, and Aaron, as they will be pivotal to societal progress, and as also they are his children.

The Nine Unknown Men are said to hail from all different kinds of civilizations and societies from around the world. This explains the I-ching, the heiroglyphics, the greek mythology relations etc. If they all created the island together, each of their backgrounds is going to influence what is on the island. This explains all the culture clash on the island.

According to theory in the Buddhist religion, there is a secret lost land where the Nine Unknown Men conduct their research for the benefit of mankind as well as keeping it hidden from them.

There is also a prophecy determined by one of the Dharmic wheels (the wheel of time) that refers to an armageddon-like cosmolical spiritual challenge. It’s a rapture-esqe event that is said to bring about the end of the world, except for the realm of Shambala is supposed to emurge and save the world from it. Shambala is the land in Buddhism that is said to be the place where people of higher life are gaining knowledge and power for this event. Recent belief speculate that this may be a lost land anywhere in the world, instead of just on top of the Himalayan mountains.

The DHARMA initiative is the initiative taken by the Nine Unknown Men to collect data faster in order to prepare for the spiritual challenge that is said to end the world.

The electromagnet is one of the pieces of weaponry created long ago that’s being held on the island for safe keeping. The monster is probably something that is also being held safe on the island.

Some other specific intentions are unclear, but that is what the island is, what the DHARMA initiative is, and who Alvar Hanso is.

And if you think its idiotic, think about Alias, J.J. Abram’s other brain child. What did it involve plot wise that was completely out of the ordinary.
-A prophecy of the end of the world
-The prophecy coming from a dead man who predicted events perfectly 500 years in advance
-secret organizations and societies hiding it
-huge historical congruencies.

This sounds like an idea that J.J. Abrams would definitely come up with

When reading spoilerfix, i noticed something that the producers said about Mr. Eko. They said he has a larger very important destiny on the island. The black smoke encounters him, looks at his past (supposedly) and then leave. I think the reference here is that Mr. Eko is going to acheive Enlightenment on the island (he is getting gradually more spiritual so far) and maybe his destiny is replacing one of the nine unknown men. it fits in nicely.

The reason i came up with this theory was the fact that the producers said that DHARMA was just the tip of the iceberg and that there was something biggger going on on the island itself. (Also i just happened to come across the idea of the Ascended Master when studying for a philosophy test that involved Theosophists). I have posted this theory as a general idea. Im sure that when i have more time and energy, I can make specific connections to the island.

I already have one in mind involving something called the Vimana, and anti-gravitational aircraft that is said to be in possession of the Nine Unknown Men. Perhaps the electromagnet is actually the anti-gravitational propulsion system for a Vimana and the 108 timer is actually a launch countdown. It sounds farfetched, but if you look at historical accounts of the design of the Vimana, it seems to match the description of the hatch (including an internal Geodesic Dome as it's "bridge", which is exactly what the room with the computer in the hatch is.)

UPDATE

Upon further research, a few things about the Nine Unknown Men have shown further congruencies.

-They believe they are the Ennead, or the nine major gods of ancient Eqypt, which would explain the cryptic use of heiroglyphics.

-Some of the Nine are known to have made lectures and addresses to the United Nations (thus, Hanso's address to the UN made public on his website).

-The Nine supposedly had influence on the lead scientisits on the CIA's notorious MKULTRA project, which was parapsychological enginneering studies.

I would also like to note that I am still trying to see if there is in fact a difference between "The Council of Nine" and the "Nine Unknown Men". If anyone know the answer to this or finds the answer to this, it would be greatly appreciated.
